LUCKY ESCAPE: The badly wrecked Honda City at the scene of the accident.

The 22-year-old man from Pending Heights was travelling along Jalan Astana in Petra Jaya with a 15-year-old male relative, who was the pillion rider, when the accident occurred around 10.30pm.

The duo were earlier at an unspecified location in Tabuan Jaya having drinks with their friends.

According to witnesses, the victim had failed to notice that another motorcycle was travelling in front of him and slammed into its rear, causing both machines to crash onto the road.

The teenage pillion rider and the motorcyclist who was struck from behind were not hurt in the incident.

An ambulance was summoned to the scene and brought the injured victim to Sarawak General Hospital, where he was admitted for further treatment.

In an unrelated accident, a man somehow cheated death when his Honda City car spun out of control and overturned several times along Rock Road early yesterday morning.

The driver, whose particulars were not known, was heading for Mile 3 when the incident occurred around 12.30am.

The condition of the road at the time was described as wet and slippery due to intermittent rainfall earlier in the night.

According to a witness, the car skidded out of control as it approached a bend along the road near a seafood restaurant.

The car then overturned several times and went over the centre divider before coming to a halt on the opposite side of the road.

The driver, however, emerged from the wrecked vehicle with hardly a scratch on his body and immediately called a towing service provider to have the car removed from the scene.
