Murder accused for sentencing Feb 19

KOTA KINABALU: The High Court here yesterday set Feb 19, next year to deliver its judgement on the case of a local charged with murdering another man two years ago.

High Court judge Datuk Clement Skinner made the decision after hearing clarification from the accused Ommar Yacob’s counsel Hamid Ismail.
Ommar, 32, allegedly murdered Jully Martin, 27, at room No. 10, second floor, Lot 34, Lorong 4, Bandaran Berjaya here between 1pm and 3pm on May 12, 2007.
Under Section 302 of the Penal Code, he could be sentenced to death if found guilty.
The trial started on Sept 2 where the prosecution, led by deputy public prosecutor Eyu Ghim Siang, called 18 witnesses before closing the case on Sept 24.
On Nov 5, Ommar was ordered to enter his defence after the court ruled that the prosecution had established a prima facie case against him.
Only the accused testified in court before the defence closed its case on Nov 16, this year.
